Balance of water and disinfectant must be followed:

Make a point to ensure that water is healthy and free of any harmful microorganisms before you actually enter a spa. This can be done by striking the water regularly and maintaining total alkalinity and pH of the water to control bacteria in the water.

Disinfectant levels, TA and pH can be controlled by using appropriate test strips. There is also a bacterium that tests are now available for the detection of bacteria in spa water.

Storage of chemicals and Spa:

It is important that the additives, cleaning compounds and chemicals used in the spa are stored in a cool, dry, ventilated the area. Besides this, should be placed away from direct sunlight, and a way out of reach of children. Remember to always read and follow the instructions found on labels of chemical products.

All spa chemicals should not be mixed before adding to the spa. Instead, you have to dissolve dry chemicals one at a time, in clean water in a plastic bucket. It is only now that you can pour this bucket of water and chemicals in the hot tub. This is to prevent possible damage to the layer of acrylic or PVC coating of the spa that occurs by direct contact with the granules of dissolved chemicals.

Alcohol and drugs in the spa:

It is dangerous to drink alcohol and drugs, when in the spa, as hot water tends to amplify the effects of alcohol and drugs. This can lead to dangerous consequences. So if you take medications, ask your doctor for instructions on proper use of prescription drugs in the spa. Instead of drinking alcohol, many people prefer to drink a cold soda, mineral water or juice when you relax in the spa.

The right water temperature:

The National Spa and Pool Institute states that 104 degrees F is the maximum temperature of hot water for your spa. Sitting for long periods in water with higher temperatures tends to lead to an increase in body temperature to dangerous levels. This is why the modern spas are usually set at the factory, not to exceed this limit.

The soaking time and temperature recommended no more than 15 minutes at 100 to 102 degrees F. and with children and babies are more sensitive to heat, ideal water temperature for them is not above 95 degrees F, not more than 10 minutes.

People who suffer from high or low blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease or other serious health conditions should consult and obtain the advice of a physician before doing so. To find the ideal temperature of the spa, put a floating thermometer in the spa, if it has a digital temperature reading.

Precautions for children and infants:

If children and babies should come into a spa, have to be introduced slowly, so they have time to adjust to temperature changes without any fear or discomfort. Children should never be left alone in hot tubs, spas and swimming pools. A few minutes into the shallow pool or spa is sufficient for a risk of drowning to take place. Remember, prevention is always better than cure.

Pregnancy & Spa:

It is definitely not recommended for pregnant women to enter a hot tub or spa without consulting your doctor.

Hair entanglement hazards:

It is possible that the risk of drowning that occur with a bather's hair entangled in a drain cover, when the hair and the water is based on the drainage. This is why children, or anyone for that matter, should not play with the head placed underwater in a spa.

To avoid this, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has assisted in developing the requirement of the dome-shaped vanishing points in a spa, with two outlets to be used for each pump. With this, the powerful suction drain that comes with blocking is reduced. So those with older spas have to have these new drain covers installed, and maybe get a spa with two drains to prevent entrapment in the drain. This applies to the pits too.

To ensure that the spa is maintained in good and safe working conditions, and that drain covers are not broken or missing, have regular checks at the spa professional. You have to check to make sure the drain is covered throughout the year. They have a GFCI protected power disconnect device installed for the spa, and knowing where and how to use it in emergencies.

About the switch of power failure:

It is important to install a manual disconnect device for the spa at least 5 feet and a maximum of 15 feet from the spa, for your safety. They also make a point to check local codes.

Electrical equipment in the spa:

For security reasons, telephones with cable TV, hair dryer, radios and other electrical appliances when not handled in spas or pools or by contact with water with wet hands or legs.
Make sure all plugs are located at a safe distance from the spa or jacuzzi, following local building codes. Electrical devices should be kept away from water, never on the edge of the spa. This is because if an electrical appliance falls into water, or is touched by a person wet, the results of possible electrocution.

Importance of Indoor Spa:

The spa must be covered with a safety lid closed when the spa is not used. Children should always stay away from the resorts, unless under adult supervision. Remember that unsupervised spas are attractive to curious toddlers, so keep the spa covered tightly with straps to prevent sliding cover children in the spa. Replace the spa cover when necessary. You can install an extra pair of tie straps for extra security around the resort.

Importance of safety railings and steps:

Spa Steps and handrails are needed to assist in and out of hot tubs with feet are wet and slippery. With a towel bar, you can ensure that the dry towels are available for feet and hands. For added security, you could have a non-slip surface around the parameter of the spa. To prevent accidents with broken glass, appetizers and drinks are served in plastic containers when in the spa. There must be adequate lighting at ground level at night.

Benefits of a Tub Together:

Adults soak together is always a wiser choice, and more entertaining at a spa. This is because with one or more partners, he is sure someone is there if you have a problem with the spa. Of course, children should always be accompanied when in the spa.
